Welcome to the Texas Catholic Conference, the Official Public Policy Voice of the Catholic Bishops of Texas.
OUR MISSION
The primary purpose of the Conference is to encourage and foster cooperation and communication among the dioceses and the ministries of the Catholic Church of Texas.
A major function of the Conference is to be the public policy arm of the Conference's Board of Directors, the bishops of Texas, before the Texas legislature, the Texas delegation in Congress, and state agencies. The public policy issues addressed by the Conference include institutional concerns of the Catholic Church as well as issues related to Catholic social teachings.

Public Policy

The Board of Directors of the TCC is made up of regular and consultative members. The regular members are the Diocesan Bishops of the Roman Catholic dioceses of Texas - the Bishops of Texas who are responsible for the administration of the dioceses.
The official position of the Texas Catholic Conference is determined by a vote of the regular members of the Board of Directors. Public policy statements may be initiated by the Board members or by any delegate to the General Assembly.
The public policy issues addressed by the Conference include institutional concerns of the Catholic Church and issues related to Catholic social teachings. The following list highlights some of the priorities of the Texas Bishops prior to the 80th Legislative session.
Life Issues Our foundational principle to protect the life and dignity of all human persons calls us to work to end abortion, euthanasia, destruction of human embryos, cloning and assisted suicide.
Immigration We recognize the contributions of immigrants to our society by supporting their accessto healthcare and education for the benefit of all of the community.
Health & Human Services We show God’s special concern for the poor and vulnerable by supportingfoster care services and programs that make health care more affordable and accessible while providing incentives for morally appropriate health research.
Education We recognize parents as the primary educators of their children through supportingparental choice in education.
Criminal Justice Reform We support fiscal and moral reform in our state’s criminal justice systemwith an emphasis on ending the death penalty and supporting successful rehabilitation and reintegration for those re-entering society.
