Over one hundred pro-lifers from around the state gathered at the Capitol for this years Catholic Pro-Life Day on March 7, 2007. After celebrating Mass and attending a brief training, participants attended opening prayer in the House and the Senate and then proceeded to talk with legislators about important pro-life issues and legislation. Specific issues included a ban on abortion, embryonic stem cell research, and funding for umbilical cord blood banks and "Choose Life license plates.

Participants included Diocesan priests and staff, family groups, crisis pregnancy volunteers, and students from state Catholic high schools and the University of Texas.
Catholic Longhorns for Life were very excited to participate!
"This was an insightful experience into the way that state politics works, said Catherine Cole, a sophomore piano performance student at the University of Texas. "It was nice to be able to make contact with our legislators, I think more people should take advantage of this opportunity.
After the days meetings, the group gathered at St. Marys Cathedral to debrief. Various people shared their positive and negative experiences, and were encouraged to continue speaking with their local legislators at their district offices.
"I think the day went very smoothly, said Ann Bierschenk, Respect Life director for the Diocese of Austin. "Many people said they enjoyed it and are planning on doing it again next time.
